Oregon Live: Meet Portland’s Most Prolific MC
Ryan McMahon says he’s released 52 songs this year.
The Portland rapper-producer, who records as IAME and this year’s project Wool See, among others, delivered his latest on Dec. 11. “LifeAlert” boasts 19 tracks—it’s the third full-length project he’s dropped as Wool See this year, which each themed around a season.
There are no guests on these albums, and McMahon produces his own tracks, which range from the lush textures of “Over Turnt” to the overwhelming clang of “Blood Moonlighting.”
“Much of the album’s subject matter revolves around things coming to an end,” McMahon said in a statement. “While this can be dark at times, ‘LIfeAlert’ uses death as a reminder that life should be loved and that love can be lived.” Along the way, he rhymes about everything from Danzig to Zach Galifianakis, touching on social issues and personal struggles with self-awareness and wit.
